Help stop the killing

Please post and email this blog address to all who might want to help the animals at the Lehigh Co. Humane Society.
We are dedicated to reducing their disturbing high kill rate of approx. 6,000 each year. While they have an almost 2 million dollar bank account, this high rate is alarming and unnecessary.

Many steps can be taken to increase adoption rate such as off-site adoptions, meet and greets, extensive use of foster homes and rescue groups - just to name a few.

Thanks to all for your compassion.

  1. Please post your experiences during a shelter visit or conversation with employees.
Does anyone who has been there think this shelter could use an overhaul of customer service?

  2. No Kill Lehigh Valley has been in regular communication with the Board members of LCHS - through the post since they don't publish e mails. We have sent them many offers of help and suggestions for imporvement. We have sent petitions demanding change. We have been nice and we have been nasty. They never respond and they never take advantage of any opportunities to get animals out of there. I can't wait to let them know about this blog!

  3. I know volunteers have offered help with the Internet so they could start taking emails from the public. They refused.
Can you imagine that even the shelters down South where they gas animals have email so they can get as many animals into homes as possible. There is no reason LCHS shouldn't have an email address that someone monitors and actually answers on a daily basis.
Too much trouble Bruce and Connie?? I mean seriously, that is a job that a volunteer could do from their home.

  4. Do they have an email address?? And if not, why don't they already - so many more animals could be saved.
I think everyone reading this blog should call them and offer to volunteer, or better yet, go down there and demand they start doing more to find homes for the animals there.

  6. Unbelievable, isn't it?
They don't want volunteers who actually care about finding animals homes. They care more about hiring people who they can control and force to keep quiet about their criminal behavior.
If you told them you just wanted to work there to pass the time, you would have had a better chance.
I like the part on their site where they beg for a camera to do undercover investigations - Stating if only they had one, so many animals could be saved. I guess the 2 million dollars they have in their bank account isn't enough to cover a disposable camera at CVS.

  7. I put in 3 volunteer applications and 2 job applications in the last 3 years at LVHS. I'm a vet tech with an impeccable resume and lots of pit / terrier training experience and told them i had no salary requirement outside of a buck or two over minimum wage.

2 interviews later, during which it was implied that i had the job, i stopped in to talk to someone about the status of my app, and was brushed off by the desk clerks, as though i was wasting thier time. I never got a call back after that.

Over the last few years i've stopped in when i had the time, mostly just to give some human face-time to the dogs, since none of my volunteer applications had ever merited a call back. The cages were filthy, the dogs were always either extremely anxious or lethargic, and a variety of medical conditions were evident and untreated on animals who were up for public adoption.

All in all, it's one of the worst shelter environments i have seen in my career, from disinterested, unfriendly staff down to dirty, physically/ mentally unhealthy animals.

  8. I am sorry but this man at this shelter is killing innocent animals. How cruel could you be. Karma is really something and I truly hope that he gets what he deserves! Sick man to do this to adoptable animals. I wonder where he rec'd his degree form - a bubble gum machine. What a JERK!
